During a survey conducted in Marayoor and Kanthalloor areas of Idukki district, a rare spider was collected from the shola and identified as Araneus Himalayaensis. So far the famous Arachnologist, B. K. Tikader, recorded this species only from the Eastern Himalayas during 1975. Dr.Tikader had described this species in his book titled `Fauna of India-Spiders', based on a single female type specimen.
